Gator Reads (Book Review)

V is for Villain

By Peter Moore

In a world where superheroes reign supreme, Brad Baron does not live up to the standards of his super-powered family. Unlike his older brother who has super strength, can fly and is impervious to bullets, Brad is "unpowered". Or is he?

Why I picked it: I found the title and the cover art interesting.  After reading a lot of books with female leads, I was looking for a book with a strong male character.

What I thought:  The story has many layers. It really makes you think about what it means to be a hero or a villain.  Brad is easy to relate to and makes you believe that being a villain is not always a bad thing.

Who should read it: Anyone who loves a good superhero story or has ever wondered where they fit in.

Have you ever wondered...

how library books get from the store to the shelves?  Here's a sneak peek of how our latest group of books made it on to library shelves.

First comes my favorite part...SHOPPING!!
You might be a librarian if your trip to Barnes and Noble requires boxes and a dolly. :o)

Next, we spread out all the books and prepare them for processing!
So many things to read!  I wonder what I should read first...

Processing books involves putting on the spine labels and bar codes as well as wrapping the covers.
The wonderful Ms. Young hard at work processing books.

After the books are bar coded and labeled each book is put into the library catalog and checked in.
We got more copies of Maze Runner. Wahoo!!

Finally the books are ready for checkout and out for display!!

And several are already on hold!

I hope you come by and check out (or put on hold) some of our wonderful new titles!  Me? I'm reading Asylum by Madeleine Roux (a creepy read with real photos in the style of Ms. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children) and Independent Study by Joelle Charbonneau (the sequel to The Testing).

Keep on reading,

Mrs. Leffel :o)

Gator Reads (Book Review)

Fat Cat
by Robin Brande

Cat before:
Smart
Funny
Fat

Cat after:

Smart
Funny
Hot

What's her secret?  A no-holds-barred science experiment...with Cat as the guinea pig.  Can her combination of brains and bravery help Cat avenge herself against the guy who broke her heart- and maybe even turn him into an experiment of her own? ~From the book jacket

Why I picked it:  Sometimes I wander the shelves and pick random books to read.  The cover intrigued me so I gave it a go!

What I thought:  I really enjoyed this book.  Cat is a smart, funny, and likeable character.  It was fun watching her discover new things about herself as she went through her experiment.

Who should read it:  Fans of realistic fiction and anyone looking for a fun, quick read.
